“Own the Look” with These Top Three Fashion Ideas

“Own the Look” with These Top Three Fashion Ideas

There is a reason so many people name fall as their favorite season for fashion. It is the only time of year when trendy layers are actually necessary, but it is not yet so cold that bulky coats will cover them up. Here are some great ways to own the looks and embrace the best of fall fashion.

Oversized Sweaters

A few years ago, cardigans started getting longer and looser. This type of cardigan was named the boyfriend cardigan because of the stylishly oversized fit. The deeper V neck and patch pockets were borrowed from men’s styles as well. Check my blog for past articles about my favorite sweaters and jackets.

This year’s cardigans are even longer, edging into duster territory. These sweaters might as well be lightweight coats! Look for a long sweater made from heavy yarn in a textured, graphic knit pattern. Bonus points if it has a hood. A duster sweater gives you the flowing elegance of a shawl with the warmth you expect from a well-made cardigan.

Striped Tops

We’re still seeing lingering hints of the recent ’70s resurgence. This trend never became a widespread movement in the US fashion industry, but it definitely had an impact. A major example is the prevalence of warm rusty tones in clothing and makeup. This fall, you can see a ’70s influence in the popularity of form-fitting striped shirts. The retro feel is amplified if you tuck the shirt into a high-waisted skirt or pair of jeans. The only provocative thing about these shirts is the skin-tight silhouette. The sleeves are usually long, and the neckline will probably be rather high.

Extremely Loose Dresses

The Sexy Sack was hailed as the hot dress of this past summer, and it seems like it’s sticking around. Sexy Sacks are t-shirt dresses taken to the extreme. They are extra baggy with short sleeves that drape heavily over the upper arms. The comfort and flexibility of sack dresses make them ideal for layering underneath warm outerwear.

Even the fancier dresses of the season are notably loose. They flow away from the body and may have panels or attachments trailing off of them. Patchwork designs and tiered skirts add to the busy effect, distracting even more from the wearer’s figure.

Have fun experimenting with fall’s biggest trends!
